New School Film with Q & A

New School tells the story of three remarkable Australian schools engaged in shifting from an industrial education paradigm. Their vision places students at the centre of learning to prepare them for a dynamic and changing world. New School provides examples of programs and spaces that activate deep learning, inquiry and agency. It is a compelling story asking, if you could build a new school, what would it look like?

Join us to watch New School at Lindfield Learning Village, followed by a Q&A panel including Stephanie Mcconnell, Dr Julia Atkin and Dr Scott Alterator.

Dinner will be available to purchase and pick up on site from 5pm, so long as a preorder has been placed by Friday Oct 28th at 3pm, last orders will be served at 5.45pm, from our Student run cafe Roasted.

Our school cafe Roasted is open  from 4.45- 5.45pm for dinner.

All meals must be pre ordered to ensure that food is prepared and ready to go, payment is on  the evening when picking up your order on the night.   To  select your option please fill in the online order form   

The roasted menu includes: Pumpkin and Lemon Myrtle Soup, fish and chips, lasagne, spaghetti, pies, sausage rolls and more.

Dr Julia Atkin

Dr Julia Atkin’s focus is on transforming all facets of education to meet the learning demands of the twenty-first century. She is an education and learning consultant with over 30 years experience in the education sector. Her work has spanned education research, curriculum design, consultancy and teaching at all levels of the education system nationally and  internationally. Atkin’s awards and recognition include: the Apple Distinguished Educator Award; the Sir Harold Wyndham Medal; one of The Bulletin’s Australia’s Smart 100; and awards for the design of educational facilities in collaboration with Mary Featherston, Hayball and Gray Puksand.

Dr Scott Alterator

Dr Scott Alterator is a passionate educator, researcher and school design specialist committed to developing an equitable and progressive society that places quality education at the heart of its endeavours. Scott’s Doctoral research focused on the relationship between built form and teaching and learning outcomes. He understands that uniting the education and design narrative is essential to the success of an education setting. Scott is Chair of Learning Environments Australasia (Vic Chapter) and works as a researcher and consultant specialising in education design.

Stephanie McConnell

Stephanie McConnell has shaped her vision for the future of education in NSW as a teacher and leader in a variety of school contexts over 30 years. Her passion is to shift the “default position” of education from a 19th century model to one which not only meets but excels in meeting the needs of the young people of today as they stride into a future which requires them to be agile, flexible and adaptable learners.

As Principal of Lindfield Learning Village on Sydney’s North Shore, she is currently leading a school with a unique learning model reflective of current global educational research. Lindfield Learning Village is considered a flagship school for NSW Public education and Stephanie supports her staff to work in the space between ‘best practice’ and ‘next practice’. A passionate collaborator, her mission as an educator is in the relentless pursuit of the individual. Stephanie aims to support every learner in the pursuit of their own pathway towards true success – one which allows them to thrive and become a positive change in our world.
