EOI - Student Learning Support Officer

About the role

Work type: Full-time/Part-time/Casual

Year group/s: Primary (K-6) AND/OR Secondary (7-12)

School Learning Support Officers provide support for students with identified diverse learning needs, including disabilities, in classrooms and other learning environments under the direction and supervision of a teacher to support the achievement of educational outcomes. This support includes student welfare, health and wellbeing activities as required. SLSOs also support the broader day-to-day operations of the school by flexibly responding to other priorities on an as-needs basis under the direction of the principal or supervising member of the teaching staff. 

Duties include:

  • Assisting students with classwork
  • Assisting the classroom teacher in the teaching and learning environment, including the implementation of individual educational programs, individual transition programs, personalised learning and support plans, health care plans or behaviour support plans to support students’ engagement in learning activities.
  • Performing administrative duties to support and enable effective teaching and learning outcomes for students.
  • Communicating with students using the most appropriate assistive technology device to meet the needs of the student.
  • Operating classroom equipment to support learning 
  • Maintaining positive relationships with students, staff and the wider school community
  • Interacting with parents and carers under the guidance of teaching staff

Selection criteria

  • Effective communication and organisational skills 
  • Adaptability and flexibility in responding to students’ individual learning needs  
  • High levels of emotional intelligence, interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to work with students with emotional, physical and/or intellectual disabilities
