Last year, Michaela H completed a project on #Mars as part of a Year 6 project.
Her grandfather encouraged her to submit it for the Horkheimer/O'Meara #Journalism Award which is presented by the Astronomical League , a body of more than 280 local astronomical societies in the U.S.
When an email arrived informing her that she came in 3rd place for her submission and has been awarded a plaque and cash prize.
The email from the @Astronomical League said:
I am very pleased to let you know that, in a large and very competitive field of entries, Michaela's essay has tied for third place in the #Horkheimer/ #OMeara #Journalism competition for 2022.
This award comes with a plaque and, despite the tie, comes with the full third-place cash prize of $250. This award will be highlighted in the September issue of Reflector.
We can arrange to have the plaque presented at a local club meeting in Australia (I would need the address of the presenter) or we can send it directly to your home, whichever you prefer.
Since you are one of our younger contestants (the age limit is 14), we sure hope to see another submission from you in 2023 as well!
I hope I will have a chance to meet you and your parents in the not too distant #future.

We cant wait to see what 2023 brings for Michaela!
